That is 100% correct, but the definition of an empire includes the ruling
power directly placing a government in charge which has no sovereignty. Now
you could argue that the first few years in Iraq would fit that bill, but as
you can see, we hand over power and sovereignty instead of attempting to
keep control. So if you'd like to argue that how America conducts itself
internationally is wrong or unjust or overbearing or any number of those
words, I'm not going to argue with that, it's a subjective point of view, we
all have our own. But empire we are not.

Morning, Leigh! Enjoying our dialogue. Agreed, in the "classical" sense, the American Empire lacks an emperor (though the imperial presidency COULD fit in a modern context). Identifying the USA’s American Empire, by its international behavior, is controversial. Stuart Creighton Miller posits that the public's sense of innocence about Realpolitik (cf. American Exceptionalism) impairs popular recognition of US imperial conduct. Since it governed other countries via surrogates — domestically-weak, right-wing governments that collapse without US support.

Go read what the definition of "empire" is, the US is not an empire. It is
and has done all the things that you just pointed out, but that does not in
any way fit the description of empire as would the classical British Empire,
Ottoman Empire.....

This country embarked on empire starting with the Spanish American War. We garnered colonies. From the Philippeans to Puerto Rico. We also engineered to overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and the incorporation of the Kingdom of Hawaii into United States sovereign territory. We got a taste of empire and we liked it. At that point we, as a country, lost our soul. The first anti-colonial, ant-imperial country on the planet embraced empire. It was the beginning of the end of this country as a republic. Republics do not have colonies. We are also very bad at the empire business. Empires extract tribute to the center from periphreal states. In the American Empire, tribute flows from the center TO the periphreal states. Empires maintain a massive far flung military presence. The United States today has over 700 military bases on foreign soil. What happened to Founding Principles, one of which is no foreign entanglements? We now see that the burdens of empire are extremely costly. Perhaps what other peoples do, how they choose to organize their government, economies and societies are NONE of our business. The business of America is business. NOT running empires. Perhaps we should abandon empire and restore The Republic. It is the only way out for this country. The alternative is to continue our devolvement into dictatorship and to live on our knees in abject slavery. Either the individual is sovereign or the State is sovereign.
